Collecting Toiletry Supplies for Families in Need

ASMC is teaming up with AGA to collect those unused little soaps, shampoos, lotions, and etc. provided by hotels.  We will deliver them to a new shelter for Columbus area homeless families, the YWCA Family Center, a food bank run by Central College Church in Westerville, and if there is sufficient supply, the Mid-Ohio food bank.  Families can't buy those supplies with food stamps, so they are given out with food rations.

Supply drop-offs are located in Building 21, contact Charles Miller charles.miller@dfas.mil or Renae Walters renae.walters@dfas.mil.

Let's make our first joint venture a success  to help those who need it most!

Financial Management Network Offers News You Can Use

By Angela Schultz
Ms. Schultz is associated with the DFAS Learning and Development Division of Human Resources

Looking for a way to stay up-to-date on the latest trends and issues in finance and accounting? Look no further. DFAS employees can now take advantage of the Financial Management Network (FMN), an online training program used by more than half of the Fortune 500 companies. FMN is the leading financial "update" subscription program in the industry. Using a combination of video and articles from industry publications, FMN introduces its subscribers to the people and ideas that shape the profession.

FMN offers four new courses every month and has more than 72 archived courses available. The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) recognizes these courses as "interactive self study," and each one offers two hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit. This is a self-study system that will enable you to organize your professional development time around your busy schedule.

FMN is targeted toward finance and accounting professionals who want to be informed about current issues in their field. It's very effective for those people who need continuing education to maintain a professional certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Defense Financial Manager (CDFM). Courses recently completed by DFAS employees include "Six Sigma Framework: The Home Depot Experience," "Internal Control and Integrity-based Business Processes," and "Ethics: More Than a Code of Conduct."

Any DFAS employee may request a subscription, which allows unlimited access to FMN. Visit the Growth & Learning eLearning Center to learn more about FMN, take a trial course, and request a subscription.  The address is http://education.smartpros.com/main/welcome.asp?qs=dfas.
